Our Story

Hello! My name is Courtney.

I’m the mother of two beautiful (and LOUD and ACTIVE) children who inspire me daily. I started my homeschool journey when my son, who has always loved learning, started struggling with school. We needed a different approach so I started searching for homeschool options. Something for kids and families who:

◾ Can’t sit still for worksheets, but love good stories.

◾ Thrive outside in nature

◾ Have baby sisters who want to do everything big brother does

◾ Are secular and science-loving

◾ Care a lot about the environment and social issues and want to see that reflected in our schooling

◾ Value creativity and design thinking

It was a tall order. But it turns out, I had the right skills to build it. With a background in teaching, writing, design, science and technology, sustainability, and the arts, I bring a unique perspective to every study. NorthStar Educational Explorations benefits from much more than just my expertise - I have a team of subject matter experts who review content. My children and our homeschool friends test every activity, so these resources are truly kid-tested and approved!

Hi, I’m Wendy!

When my sister approached me about joining her newly formed company, I jumped at the chance to work together.  Our work styles and expertise complement each other and the timing for collaboration just seems right. Work just became less "work" and more fun! The creative possibilities are endless and exciting.  For me, work has always been about fulfilling my creative needs, supporting my children's interests and needs, contributing positively to my community, and having balance in my life with family, friends, and activities.  Northstar and working with my sister checks off all of those "must haves" in my life.

Professionally, my background spans from media buyer, marketing manager, web designer, interior designer to medical assistant. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling the world, hiking and spending time with my two kids, husband and two dogs.
